In 2001, a chat over a pint and a packet of peanuts resulted in a small clothing label being launched with 12 designs based on the Haynes Car Manuals iconic cover illustrations. Ten years on and Chunk is now one of the UK’s leading urban street-wear labels. Distribution is growing steadily and Chunk is distributed in the UK/Eire, Italy, Scandinavia, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Greece, Balearic Islands, Spain, France and Switzerland. Chunk’s ethos was, and still is, to produce great designs on quality garments, targeting 18-35 year old males with a strong emphasis on cool nostalgia. From the success of the initial Haynes car manual designs Chunk soon began to attract attention from licence-holders keen for their characters to be given the Chunk treatment. The first was Warner Bros with Hong Kong Phooey, the Anthill Mob, Captain Caveman and Bingo (Banana Splits). These were followed by licenses from the BBC, Monty Python, Looney Tunes, and Marvel. Famous for its bold graphics, tongue-in-cheek humour and unique design quirks, Chunk now has worked with some of the biggest licenses in the world, which include Marvel, Hanna Barbera, Fremantle Media (Danger Mouse) and Lucas Films (Star Wars) – for which Chunk won a licensing award in 2007 for its Star Wars range.
